One of the greatest issues in the field of emoticonology is that differnt emoticons have differnt ways of expressions. For example, the classic "smiley face" has endless variations. Today, we will be discussing the 3 most famous types of "smiley faces" and their pros/cons.
:)
Class: Smiley Face
Scientific Name: Colonus Parenthesus
The classic and most used of all smiley faces; universally recognized and hailed as the smiley that started it all. Almost every chat message accepts these and have their own animation for it, and it is simple, elegant, and expressive. If you don't know what to choose, or are new to using emoticons, we suggest to use this one to get familiar with the concept. One problem is that it takes slightly longer to write this smiley than the others, on account of the space between the keys you must press and the holding of the Shift Key.

Class: Smiley Face
Scientific Name: Equali Parenthesus
Some people argue that the equal sign makes the smiley face look friendlier/more expressive. Others argue that it makes the classic smiley look ridiculous. Still, this form is for those who specifically enjoy seeing the equal sign, which is a fair amount of people. This is accepted in the majority of "powerful" chatting engines, such as AIM.

Class: Smiley Face
Scientific Name: Equali Braquatus
One of the newly emerging smileys, it is seen by many classics as an ugly deformation of the smiley. However, increasing numbers of people have begun to accept its use, although it is not accepted on most chatting sites yet. However, one of the main benefits of this smiley is the speed with which it can be made, since it requires no capitilization and the keys are right next to each other. This makes it invaluable for emoticon wars and spamming.
